Freemasonry Raises £245,000 for Nottinghamshire Charities

We are very proud of the fact that in just five short years, 1997-2001, the 3,700 Freemasons of Nottinghamshire raised an incredible £245,000 for worthy causes within the County.

With additional monies from the main central Masonic Charities – Grand Charity and the Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys – the true sum donated to Nottinghamshire’s charitable causes is probably well in excess of £300,000.

Over the past few years, grants have been made to the Queen’s Medical Centre, the City Hospital and the Highbury Hospital to purchase equipment which the N.H.S could not provide.

Organisations such as the Autistic society have been provided with computer equipment to assist in the instruction of those afflicted. The Provincial Charity Steward and his wife together with a colleague and his wife visited the society’s workshop in Worksop to see the equipment in use. The Portland Training College has also been a beneficiary

In 1997, to mark the millennium the Provincial Grand Master, Stewart Hill, launched an appeal to raise money from within the Province to provide a new reception centre at the International Scout Camp Centre at Walesby in north Nottinghamshire.

In response to the appeal, the Masons of Nottinghamshire raised a whopping £50,000 which was boosted by a further £25,000 from the Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys. The Centre was opened by the Provincial Grand Master in July 1999, in good time for the millennium celebrations.
