Since 1984, the Grand Charity is pleased
to have helped a large number of Hospices throughout
England and Wales with grants amounting to £3,581,950.
Currently, the Grand Charity commits around
£500,000 a year to its programme
of support for the movement.
During the final stages of an incurable illness, people
deserve the best possible quality of life. The hospice
movement – which has been one of the most popular
areas of support by Freemasons for many years –
aims to offer this to all individuals.
Donations are made for the operating costs of independent
hospices and palliative care services. The Grand Charity
does not make grants for buildings or other start-up
costs to a hospice that has not yet opened, or for hospices
which are owned, managed and predominantly funded by
the NHS. Children’s hospices providing palliative
or respite care, are also eligible to receive a grant.
The Grand Charity’s grants complement the support
provided by Provincial and individual Masonic Lodges
for local hospices. Donations have been made for many,
many years. Trinity Hospice, London, has been receiving
generous donations from Freemasons for more than 100
years.
